Whenever you visit a webpage all the components that make up that page are downloaded and stored on your computer in the Temporary Internet Files folder. The sliding bar lets you specify how much of your hard drive is allocated to storing these temporary files.

The advantage to TIF's is that when you revisit a webpage it can load quicker because it gets the files from your computer instead of having to download them. The disadvantage is that it takes up disk space and everyone who has access to your computer can see every file and page you've visited (provided they have administrator rights or can log on to your account).

As for what you should set it to - it depends. Mine is set to 10 gigabytes but that's because I sometimes fish out files and webpages that I've visited in the past and can't find again online.

If you have no need to fish out old files then set it to a very small number - 258MB will be about right. It's enough to store all the files from one session on the internet.

To delete all the files click on TOOLS click on INTERNET OPTIONS then click the DELETE FILES button. You can also click the DELETE COOKIES button and if you want, clcik on CLEAR HISTORY.

Mine is at 312 MB.

It should be enough as you do not need to keep the files in the temporary internet file folder. I go to "Delete files" regularly to clear them but do not press "Delete Cookies". Do this manually instead as the temporary internet file folder also contains cookies of the passwords that you may not want to re-type due to laziness, like me.

Something you downloaded. Dump temp internet files! This is where some programs are stored during setup from the net. Once used, you no longer need them.

you can change the settings to let it hold more stuff if you need to, usually if you dont download movie episodes and such, 100mb is enough, although you can clear it at anytime
