I would tell them not to sweat it, I grew up thinking I was on some schedule and now look at me I'm sitting around wasting my time asking yahoo questions... The point being is that it may turn out to be OK for a lot of kids. And you know COLLEGE will still be there for you if you choose that path or the "job world" will be there as well.

The fact is KIDS may have to help "settle in" and such with the new living situation, and really it may be better if some kids took the time off.....

Just to remind people out there it wasn't just New Orleans that received heavy damage from Katrina, Mississippi also received total destruction as well and some parts of the Gulf Coast and Alabama..Most kids displaced by the storm found schools that weren't damaged waiting for them with open arms, grade schools and high schools alike. As for college students some may have taken time off and others found schools to continue their education.

If the children who were displaced by Katrina were on the right path they simply transferred to any one of a number of colleges who offered to take them in and help them to maintain the college goals. If they were in high school every community that took in their parents also took them into their high schools and they will be just fine. If the kids who were in college decided to take the year off they will also be fine. You however have had your year and it is time for you to get off the computer and get back to class or to go get a job.

A good deal of the kids displaced by Katrina weren't going to graduate in the first place. It's not like New Orleans was a beacon for intellectual pursuit. Beeds and boobs. That seems to be all that matters to New Orleans.
