There's a supervolcano under Yellowstone, I believe.

Because it has geysers and hot mineral springs and bubbly burping clay pits. I guess some people consider that hell. Actually, it seems like a nice place to visit and I'd love to go there. But maybe people want to make it sound spooky to keep people away or lure people who are into spooky stuff, I don't know.

They make this conotation in reference to the geysers,hot springs and bubbling clay pits,all of which get they'er distinct actions from the terrific heat generated by magma underlying the whole of the park,wrich is actually a cauldera or huge volcano.

It is very active geologically and hydrothermally. There is steam and boiling mud and deadly gases. Except for the strangeness of the place, there is really nothing "inviting" about it as a place to live.

I think because - 1. they are morons and have not picked up any book but the bible in their life - or two , it may just be a familiar and antiquated nick-name.
