it means your alternator is not charging, or your battery voltage stays belows 13.5 volts, either way having your charging starting system checked

Look in the owners manual,
I would guess electrical system like a loose belt, bad alternaotr or charging system failure

I am sure it alo means get ready for the shock of your life when the bill comes....sorry I just had to add that as I don't know why but VW's are reliable and a good car but when it needs to be fixed MAN is it expensive

If it is a red lamp I believe it is the charging lamp, meaning your alternator is not putting out a full charge, could be a blown fuse, or loose belt

it meens there is an electrical issue, just get to a mechanic as soon as you can. but its not that big of a deal, alot of the time it is nothing. but it should be checked out
