It's just about perfect, changing, adding, or otherwise trying to improve it would spoil a wonderful piece of work.

I think as long as they cleaned the image to enhance what is already there it would be fine. There was a remastered version of Se7en where audio and picture were enhanced and it did make it more atmospheric and gloomy (not that it needed much more to make it gloomy) but sometimes, as in the Star Wars movies where bits are changd or added in there are too noticeable. Close Encounters to me does not need anything. I recently bought it on DVD where picture and audio has been remastered and it looks fabulous. As they say, if it aint broke, don't fix it

This is MY opinion - I do not typically agree with redoing any original movies; however, I saw Close Encounters at the theatre so many years ago and it bored the ____ out of me! I think this is a movie that may benefit from being remade or remastered - whatever - it needs help!

If it aint broke don't fix it!I saw the movie at the theaters when it first came out and in my opinion, it is one of the movies you could call pure perfection. They didn't get any better than this. But, through the years the tv has chopped it to pieces to make room for time and they have come out with added footage to this movie, they've cut out pieces of it. Leave this poor movie alone!

Anything brought out on a DVD remastered always has a lot cut out of the film, not always to the betterment of the film.

it is almost always better, with digital remastering and improved sound, often the dvd will include exclusive extras such as deleted scenes, outtakes , and commentary.
while the visual efforts of remastering can be good or so-so the sound is almost always greatly improved.

No, gee-whiz special effects can detract from the human side of the story.

For example, the thought of Richard Dreyfuss creating a computer model of his vision instead of playing with mud pies fills me with horror. *G*

The only difference would be like watching analog television and then seeing the same thing in Hi-Def. Don't waste your money.
