In your control panel on each computer go to the computer name area and make sure each computer is in the same workgroup and they each have different computer names.

In the windows me computer right click on the folder with all of your pictures and select sharing and set up the folder as a shared folder on the network. Then back at the contol panel and select the network icon. Check see if file and printer sharing is installed if not click on the add butoon and install it.

Restart both computers and in the xp computer go to my network places. If the ME computer doesn't appear on the local network section click on the "entire network" icon and then microsoft windows network, then your network icon should appear. double click on that and the windows me computer should be listed and the photo folder available. Using copy and paste you can copy the files to your computer.

The guy above me is too articulate for me. I loved his advice, nonetheless. But if I were you, I'd go with a simpler route.

I suggest buying a portable hard-drive. You can attach it to your desktop computer and copy all the pictures to it. From there, you can disconnect it and attach it to your laptop computer. After attaching it, you can copy the pictures from the portable hard-drive to your laptop.

I did that, myself... and it all works great. However, if you want them both to share a network, you can create a workgroup... though I see no point in that, really... unless you're a networker or you want to create an easy file-transfer system (which most of us don't even really need...).

Good luck!

I have found it is easier to post the pictures to a website that you can access from both computers. You can use Yahoo's Flicker, or the one I use is Photobucket.com. Both sites are free, and make life so much easier for managing your pictures. It also makes it easier to share your pictures with your friends and family.

Have fun with the new computer and the photo's.
