I think people should only be allowed a few types of gun, not all. And only 1 per houshold, why else would you need more. My personal opinion is that I would like their to be peace. I would love to live in a world where there are no weapons, hate, or greed, but I guess that is to much to ask for. If life was perfect what would we have to look forward to when we die?

I find the American take on this interesting.

Whenever this question is asked we hear the same old cliches trotted out time after time:

1) Second amendment.
2) Protect our freedom.
3) Guns don't kill people.

Well as to point one there is considerable debate as to whether the second amendment ever intended for individual civilians to own a gun just for the hell of it. Well organized militia was what it was talking about and society was clearly very different back then.

To the second point I again have to laugh. If the government want to arrest you and imprison you, take your home, your land and everything you own then they will. It doesn't matter if you have an entire arsenal in your basement your gun(s) will not protect you. If you don't believe me try not paying your property tax and threaten to shoot anyone who comes to your home demanding payment. See how long you can protect your freedom against the police and the rest of the armed forces.

Finally the third point. Yes guns don't load themselves and go down the road looking for people to kill. But clearly as American history has shown there is quite and abundance of people willing to shoot others. America has one of the highest homicide rates of any industrialized country. Almost anyone can go into a gun store and buy a tiny concealed killing machine. Then there is ready access to all kinds of serious ammunition. Not just a little bullet, but exploding bullets, armor piercing, you name it.

The American obsession with guns really doesn't protect anyone. It is a false sense of security. If you look at the statistics most domestic situations such as attempted burglary end up with the gun owner or his/her family being a victim. Then there are thousands of gun accidents on top of that.

I don't think that America will ever end its' obsession with guns, but I do believe they should be harder to get, and the most dangerous kinds of ammunition should be restricted.

Regarding the argment that the Second Amendment means state militias (i.e. the National Guard), where else in the Constitution does the "right of the People" refer to a state organization? The writers knew exactly what they where doing. The correlation between restrictions on firearms and crime levels in a country is very weak; it is more related to the culture of the country and its moral underpinnings than the availability of firearms. Restricting gun ownership by private citizens is only a superficial treatment of a deeper problem, which is probably why it appeals to politicians.

Any time you feel like taking away firearms from honest citizens, I suggest you visit, wwwlnarila.org, and look up "Britain's gun ban", and "Australia's gun ban" on their search window.
You can compare the meteoric rises in crime in both nations.
Then, look up, "right to carry laws", and check out how violent crimes have actually decreased since the implementation of these laws in the United States.
It will definitely make you glad you're a U.S. citizen, or make you wish you were.

Yes, it is right to allow anyone in the US to own a gun. This is a right guaranteed to them in the Second Amendment to the US Constitution, which is the highest law in the land.

Absolutely.
It is the only guarantee we have against an oppressive government.
It makes it almost impossible to impose a police state or dictatorship on us.
It also would make any country think twice before planning an invasion.

There is no question of that being right or wrong. It's a fact, pure and simple. If it ever changes, I'll never be around to know when it happened.

Yes I do. We have a constitutional right to bear arms (own guns) to protect our freedom.

If you mean own guns, then yes. It is our constitutional right! If that is not your question, then I don’t’ know what you are asking.
