the water pump on all northstar v-8s' are located at the rear of the left/front cylinder head.replacement of the pump requires removal of the pump cover and upper radiator hose.the pump cover contains the thermostat, and it is a good practice to go ahead and replace the thermostat and gasket while performing the pump replacement.the pump can only be removed with the use of a specific wrench which fits the northstar pumps only.a few select auto parts stores will keep a few of these wrenches on hand for loan-as needed by consumers, check around first before starting the job. With the tool it is a relatively painless repair that can be accomplished within a couple of hours. good luck to you.
