Why do you think she isn't satisfied with the breast? Does she scream when she nurses? Is she nursing "too often?" Is she not having enough wet and poopy diapers? The only one that truly represents a low milk supply is inadequate wet and poopy diapers.

My first baby liked to nurse constantly. She literally would nurse every 1-2 hours for the first 4 or 5 months, and by the time she was a year old she was still nursing every 2-3 hours when she was awake, and waking once or twice at night to nurse. That is perfectly normal. She just had an increased need to suckle.

To increase your milk supply, you have many options. You can pump after each feeding to increase supply, offer the breast any time baby fusses to increase breast stimulation and therefore supply, you can drink more water, eat oatmeal, take herbs that can increase milk supply like blessed thistle and fenugreek, and you can also take medications like domperidone and reglan which have been shown to increase milk supply and are also safe for mother and baby.

I take an herb called feenugreek 3 tablets 3 times a day and that really increase my milk supply. I had problems producing enough milk at first and I called my lactation consultant and she told me to pump after she is done feeding and if she dosn't seem satisfied to give her only 1/2 ounce of formula them try and breastfeed again she keept telling me that the best way to prduce milk is to keep the baby at the breast for the first 2 months it felt like all I ever did was breastfeed.I attaced a really good website that my lactaion consultant gave me.

What's her adjusted age? She might be going through a growth spurt. Nursing constantly at the beginning of a growth spurt send the signal to your body to start increasing your supply so you can meet that upcoming need. 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months are the average ages for the first four BIG growth spurts.

Traditional Medicinals makes a Mother's Milk tea that can boost lactation. Oatmeal -- as a breakfast cereal, or in cookies (yum) -- helps, too. Make sure you're drinking plenty of water through the day. Fenugreek capsules can also help if the first three aren't working. (You know you've taken enough fenugreek when your pee smells like maple syrup. Weird, but true.)

Good luck! You're doing a great thing in breastfeeding your baby!

Talk to a lactation consultant about herbs that you can take to increase breastmilk. Drink more water. If you have a breast pump you may need to pump between feedings to increase your milk supply. My son was a preemie also and the nurses added formula to the breastmilk to put weight on him faster (He was 11 weeks early)

My baby was also premature and she constantly wanted to eat I mean she wanted to be stuck to me 24/7. There are many differant things you can do such a pumping though that didn't help me. You can get teassuch as organic mothers milk that will help but just a warning thay taste gross. Um one that I didn't try was you can drink half a beer just remember only half. Something about the yeast and other things in the beer help producing more brestmilk.
I hope this helps.

Make sure she is emptying the whole breast at each feeding. The first milk she gets is the foremilk, and it doesn't have as many calories as the hindmilk. If you make sure she gets the hindmilk too, it will not only increase your supply, but it will be healthier for your daughter.
