Take acidophilus. You can buy pills of it in the store in the vitamin aisle. Also, if the infection is painful, you can actually put it in your vagina. Just if you're doing that, make sure that whatever you're putting in there has Live Cultures - you can just like ask someone at the local GNC or whatever. The good thing is that not many people have ever heard of this remedy so it's not even embarrassing. Yogurt has acidophilus as well. Drink a lot of cranberry juice.
It really does work, I've had a few of those and they're not fun. I've been to the doctor/taken medicine as well as doing the above, and this way might actually be easier.

Try UTI-Clear - Containing a unique combination of potent herbs in therapeutic dosage, UTI-Clear relieves the symptoms of Cystitis, Bladder infections and Urinary Tract Infections (UTI's).
Many people suffer from recurring infections of the bladder and urinary tract and find it embarrassing and costly to constantly have to consult their doctors for the same reason. Now you can help yourself with UTI-Clear.
http://nativeremedies.com/uti_clear_for_uti_bladder_infection.shtml
To help prevent recurring infections drink 100% cranberry juice.
Other remedies:
Cranberry (vaccinium macrocarpon or vacinnium oxycoccus) - cranberry juice has been used for more than a century for the prevention and treatment for urinary tract infections. Evidence suggests that it is the antioxidant flavonoids called proanthocyanins that prevent bacteria from adhering to the walls of the urinary tract.
Uva Ursi - (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi) - Also called bearberry, uva ursi is an antimicrobial against e coli, arbutin. 1 tab in cup of boiling water. 1 cup 3 times day. Use tea, tincture, or capsule. Compounds arbutin, methylarbutin. Uva ursi may turn urine green.
Goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis) - Goldenseal is an antimicrobial. It is found in capsule, tincture or tea form.
Other herbs to consider:
Marshmallow root (Althea officinalis)
Buchu (Barosma betulina) - an antiseptic and diuretic.
Corn silk
Horsetail (Equisetum arvense)
Homeopathic Remedies
Cantharis — sharp burning pain, intense urge to urinate
Staphysagria — continual burning, result of sexual intercourse
Prevention
The best thing you can do is to prevent UTIs from occuring. Here are my tips:
1. Urinate as you feel the need. Avoid holding in urine.
2. Drink at least 8 glasses of water each day
3. Avoid excess coffee, alcohol, smoking, and spicy foods
4. Women should wipe from the front to the back after going to the bathroom. This helps to prevent e.coli from the colon from entering the bladder.
5. Cleanse the genital area before sexual intercourse. Urinating after sexual intercourse can also help.
6. Avoid bubble baths, feminine hygiene sprays, and scented douches, products which can irritate the urethra
