i kind of get the picture but what ECXACTLY does it mean???

the reason i ask is because a friend was staring at me and i said what? so she said to another friend dont stare at her or she'll says what? and i said oh yeah its really normal to stare at people. and she said not if you're people watching????? what does this mean?????

I'm not 100% positive, but what I think it is, is just going some place where there are people--such as a park, and kind of hanging out, maybe flipping through a magazine or reading a book, and just sort of watch the world go by. It's nothing like stalking or being creepy, it's just sort of watching people going on with their daily lives around you.

Observing others, watching their habits. Seeing how they react to different things. Seeing how they compare to others. Figuring out their personalities. It's all about understanding others better, like studying animals in the wild. (Lame comparison, but whatever.) You truly watch the people.
Just by watching them you're picking up more about human habits, whether you realize it or not. (Even if it's just kind of zoning out on crowds and stuff.)

Go to an outdoor caf,have a coke with a friend, sit, chat and check out the people walking around. That my dear is people watching.

One of my favorite pastimes!
You sit somewhere (or stand) and just look at the people going by. You see amazing things and can observe some really funny (or sometimes sad) situations.
