Columbus, I did a paper for history and was shocked into wanting Columbus Day abolished. His greatest accomplishment was he was a brutal cruel pirate. Columbus never dicovered America; his ships made landfall in the island below Cuba. The Pinto was disabled and left on a small island for the crew to repair.
The two other ships went a little further to another island and were met by the natives running out to welcome the strangers with jewels rubys, emerals, pearls, and gold a whole lot riches. Also, food that were delicacis. Columbus and the two crews accecpted the welcome until the word came the Pinto was ready to sail. He and his crew then turned on the natives taking them as hostages and looting the island.
Columbus intended to take everything back to Spain for the Queen to see. the natives were crammed into the belly of all three ships and given no food or water, many died. One ship sank and the surviors then doubled up. I think it was the Santa Maria, the mother ship all the natives drowned and they were the lucky ones.
The Queen was impressed with his haul and greed made her think that Columbus, the crew and the surviving natives should set out to India because there was talk of gold and ivory. columbus set a course for India but ended up following a strait up to a desert type landfall. He sent the natives out with crew members to keep them in line. There really was nothing and Columbus so after a few days he reasoned they found gold on there home land so they should be finding gold where ever the Hell they were. He thought the natives needed some inspiration. Every day they were flogged as they searched for gold coming back with little spe of gold or empty handed;he backlashed by chopping their hands off and leaving them to bleed to death as an example. When all the natives had bled to death, he sailed back to Spain. Needless to say the Queen was very angry and denied him an more funds for futher exploration. This is the truth of Columbus, his greastest accomplishment is he managed to find Spain twice.

He proved the world wasn't flat which was a common belief at that time in Europe. He didn't fall off the face of the earth. He found a new continent and that prove to be invaluable to the European people in the years to come as away of giving them land in which to settle in and further trade amongest other peoples.

Villain! He got lost, failed to accomplish his real goal, brought sickness to the natives, enslaved them, had no control over any of his men, and didn't care what they did to the natives, and "discovered" ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!! The man was a completely despicable loser and I can't believe we celebrate him. He's lucky Queen Isabella only tossed him in prison. Personally I would have hacked off his head myself.
