Not forbidden, but certainly uncouth. You have three choices, bring your own, shut up and drink it or shut up and don't drink it. My(former) inlaws only served coffee. I hate coffee, so I would always bring my own soda when visiting them. In this case, beer was not an option.

well, beggars can't be choosers, but screw that, I'd moan if I opened a fridge and saw miller, budwieser, coors, pabst - I'm picky, I want my fat tire, rogue, mirror pond and/or whatever good specialties that are out at the time-mmmm summer wheat . . .. I'd probably just go out and get some of my own.

Yes, unless it's really, really bad. I wouldn't moan about Coors or Bud Light. Miller Lite, that I might moan about.

. . . but he's a BUDDY! You can talk to your buds, can't cha'? Just be kind, tactful-like. For example:
"yo, dude, let me go shopping with you next time"
"wow, man, like, will this stuff make me sterile?"
"right on, so, is this what you got with my money (because you did contribute, right?)?"
"hey, like, this is the stuff my dad scours piss off the bathroom wall with"
You know, just politely, casually let him know you DON'T LIKE HIS FREE GIFT, YOU DOLT.

YES! Beggars can't be choosers.
