Sorry if this is a stupid question.

I had a really hard time meeting people who were right for me and as a last ditch effort, tried the online dating thing. I joined a dating site called dreammates and (although there were a lot of freaks and weirdos) I met the man of my dreams. He is perfect for me in every way and we have a GREAT relationship. I don`t really recommend dating online and my situation and outcome are very unusual and not very likely. But most people, I think, do it because they have run out of ways and places to try to meet quality people. It`s a jungle out there and the online thing is just easy and you feel a little more comfortable talking and getting to know someone without having to be face to face with them. It`s not as........nerve racking, I guess is the expression I am looking for. You can get to know people and if you don`t like them it`s easier and a lot less akward to let them down or tell them you`re not interested because you don`t have to see their face when you do it. Also, you can get information from a persons profile such as likes, dislikes, what they are looking for and so on without having to ask intrusive or personal questions. I don`t think this is a stupid question at all. It makes people think.

People Internet date for various reasons.

Some people may be very shy about approaching the opposite sex and through e-mail it's easy to be free about expressing yourself w/out being judged outwardly.

It's not too hard to go out and meet people. Just stay active in your community and when you go places, be the first to break the ice. Listen to what people say and find something in common.

Some people may Internet date because they may don't want the social commitment.

It is very hard to find a girl offline. I am not using online dating now, but I might use it in a few years if I am still without a g/f. It used to be easy back in high school few years ago, but now in college it is a little difficult to find a g/f. Internet has been a great tool for people to find dates. I do know some people who found dates online, but I am not going to use online dating for few more years.

I don't think it's stupid. My husband and I are about to celebrate our 7th anniversary and we met on line. I've had people ask me if I feel stupid that we met on line but I don't.

The internet is just another way to meet people. I wasn't someone who hung out at bars or clubs. I knew alot of guys around me and I wasn't interested in any of them. My husband was from a different part of the country and I found him fascinating.

I made alot of friends on the internet from all over the world, people that I've now personally met and have close relationships with them. It made my life more interesting. I don't think it's a bad idea, but I do think you have to be so incredibly careful.

If a perspective "friend" on the net can't be totally transparent with you, be willing to meet with you out in the open, meet your friends and family, then I would be suspicious.

I think when ppl get older it's harder to meet people their age. How many 30-65 year olds do you see at the clubs? Not too many. Bars suck b/c the ratio of honest people are slim to none, when looking for something other than a one night stand.

School has always been the easiest way to meet people.

Yes, it is extremely hard to just go out and meet people that are serious about having relationships. Most guys will pretend that they want a relationship when you meet them at a bar, then they'll string you along like that for a few weeks, then they'll stop calling you.
