Can someone tell me what this is like? or why they are doing this kind. I am 6 weeks and 3 days along and they are doing my first unltrasound tomarrow to detect what they can. What all do they find on your 6 week ultrasound or what are they all checking for?

They will do a transvaginal ultrasound because your baby is so small rigth now it is easier to see him or her this way instead of having to view the baby through the fat layers and skin layers on your tummy. At 6 weeks they may be looking to make sure the baby is in the uterus and not in the fallopian tube, to make sure there is a heart beat and to make sure there is only one baby and not more. The transvaginal untrasound is a long probe like instument that they place a inside the vagina. For some it can cause discomfort and for others it is fine. It will be amazing to see your baby for the very first time and see that tiny heart beating away!!!!

They will be sticking a plastic wand type thing up inside you. They do it this way when you are still pretty early, since it would be harder at this stage to see your baby very well with a regular ultrasound from the outside. They can actually see quite a lot more of the baby this way, I had one with my last baby at 10 weeks. The only reasons I can see for doing an ultrasound at 6 weeks though, would be if you are unsure of your due date or are worried about growth of the baby. Although some doctors practice differently and would consider this a routine check, since they have access to the technology.

I've had plenty of those. I have a tipped uterus and PCOS so that's a reason I've had so many. It helps to see things better then regular ultrasound. With your pregnancy they will beable to see what's going on better. It;s like a closer look. For me it was a little uncomfortable but bareable. I had my first sonogram at 5 weeks with my current pregnancy and they were checking for placement because I was having cramps and spotting and was fearing miscarriage. I've read that by 6 weeks the heart is formed but whether or not they can see if beating is another story..not sure about that one. They could just be checking to see placement, development for far, to be sure you are 6 weeks along...don't be afraid to ask the doctor what they are looking for because it's your body and your baby. Good luck.

I've had several of these as I had severve pain at the start and they thought my pregnancy could be ectopic - I'm not saying this to worry you - thats just how it was and my pregnancy is fine I'm now 29 weeks - they do internal scans for a number of reasons at around this time they should be able to see the sac and the yolk - possibly even the heartbeat but it will be tiny. They will just want to see all is in the correct position. It doesnt take long and it's not at all painful so dont panic :-)

When you are that early in pregnancy that's the only way they can see the baby. Its simple. They have a hand held wand they lubricate and insert into your vagina. It doesn't hurt. They will "hopefully" be able to size the baby and make sure everything is moving along OK and see the heartbeat. When I was pregnant I had previous miscarriages so they did one twice a week until 9 weeks. Its nothing to worry about.
Hope it helps

I had that when I was about that far long because I had cramps in my belly.. Its a slim camera inserted into the vagina. They use this to pick up on what the regular sonogram cannot . A regular sonogram can only see the belly and some organs , the transvaginal can detect anthing below the belly. Its not painful at all , they want to make sure everything is okay with you and baby. good luck

They can see more with this type of ultrasound right now because the baby is so small. Also they are doing this because most moms would be glad to know if there was more than one baby in there. It isn't painful and you get to see your baby for the first time! Good luck and enjoy!

When I was pregnant with my son I had a normal ultra sound at 6 weeks 5 days and they picked up his heartbeat. Every doctor has a different way of doing things.

I can tell you what it's like i had one for my first child. it is like a (penis) 3 inches in diameter with a camera on the end that they'll put up inside you , it is quite uncomfortable. they have to push and move it around so it can cause discomfort. The pressure is really the most odd feeling , other than that it's not terrible

Your uterus is too small right now to be seen on a regular ultrasound. Don't worry, it doens't hurt at all and it's kinda neat to see your babies heartbeat on the monitor.
