Rent an apartment, unless you can get paired up with somebody you can stand. Being stuck living with someone annoying is living Hell.

I think that living in the dorm exposes you to an experience you can only have once. I lived in the dorm my freshman year and it was so much fun. I met so many more people that I would if I have lived off-campus. The atmosphere is just different and you will miss out on a lot living off-campus. After my first year, I moved into an apartment (with someone I met from my dorm). I vote for the dorm, especially if you are going to an out-of-state school as it is the best way to meet people.

Both have their plusses and their minusses...
A lot of hassles are taken care of if you live in a dorm--eating is never a problem, but good eating might be. You always have plenty of people to talk to in a dorm, you can make some great friends in a dorm, but the noise and certain activities can keep you awake far too late into the night.
Overall, I would advise the dorm because its easier. You will become familiar enough with the school and the town to be able to find a good apartment and just as important, good roommates, if you cruise your first year in a dorm. But do attend to your studies. Enjoy the bull sessions (I loved em) but get enough sleep, too. Hey--enjoy college!!!

My first year I lived in the dorm. I hated it! It was crowded and hard to study. The parties were distracting. I moved to an apartment my second year. It depends on if you want the 'social' life or if studying is more important to you. Money is also a factor. Until I got a job my parents were paying, and the dorm is cheaper, so I had to do what they wanted me to do. If I had the choice though, I'd say get an apartment. Then if you want to have guests it's your choice, if you want to party, it's up to you. But if you want to stay home and study, that is your choice too!

well for the interaction and sometimes fun dorm. just hard to not make friend when you live on a floor with so many other people. but an apartment has many benifits too the dorm offers a great chance to get help and meet people and be real close to the library and all the campus facilities.

If you have the money then definitely rent an apartment. If not, a dorm isn't so bad, you get to familarize with your school.

Cut to the chase? rent an apartment !!....cause if you live in a dorm (noise, nosey room-mates,no privacy,..etc),it'll just take you a while till you realise that you made the wrong choice...so why waste the time?

Live on campus your first year. Once you get used to college life and such, then live off campus. :)
