Sweetheart
what are you saying
no one can hold their breath that long

Mt. Everest stands 8.85 kilometers above sea level, roughly the maximum height reached by international airplane flights, but much less than the 300 kilometers achieved by a space shuttle. Hundreds of people have tried and failed to climb the behemoth by foot, a feat first accomplished successfully in 1953. About 1000 people have now made it to the summit. Roddy Mackenzie, who climbed the mountain in 1989, captured the above image. Mt. Everest lies in the Himalayan mountains in the country of Nepal. In the native language of Nepal, the mountain's name is "Sagarmatha" which means "goddess of the sky."

I assume you mean without oxygen tanks and masks, due to altitude. (Obviously, humans need oxygen to live, even at sea level.)

Many climbers (probably most) climb Everest with oxygen support, but not all do. Some climbers, particularly sherpas native to those high mountains, have been known to climb without the help.

As for the mountain's height, I see that others have already Googled that answer. For a comparison, though, think of it as the same height that passenger airplanes typically travel at.

Messner And Habeler made the first ascent of Everest (29,028ft, or 8,848m)without oxygen in 1978. Since then there has been more successful attempts, but you have to be VERY fit and acclimatise for longer periods.
A good website to visit which describes the various difficulties of climbing Everest without supplemental oxygen is:

(In fact this website is great for any mountaineering info, and QTVR's of Everest summit!!)

Yes, it's been done many times, but only by very experienced climbers. Reinhold Messner was the first to climb without bottled oxygen. Everest is 29,028 feet high at the moment.

I don't know about you, but I use oxygen for breathing, and I pretty much always do that. My lungs like me to. If I tried to climb a mountain without breathing, I bet I'd cry.

Yes, you can climb Mt. Everest without oxigen.

But you wouldn't want to try it without oxygen.

i dont think so because the higher you are in the atmosphere, the thinner the oxygen becomes...and you know Mt. Everest is very high up, about 8,848 meters (29,028 feet)
