I do not have PRIDE that I have relations with someone of the opposite gender? That is so rediculous to me.
You also cut down what straight men wear...do you see yourselves in a mirror? OMG
Just act normal and don't tell us about who you sleep with and your lives will be better for it. You are much to "in your face" for middle America.

I am a woman and NOT gay.
I think it is disgusting that gays define themselves only by being GAY.

Robert - I am NOT an extremist. I think I am a moral person who just really doesn't understand some people's way of thinking. You explained something to me that I do not agree with and you did it in a most excellent way! You are a good writer.

Before I can have you hear the best answer to your question, I need to find out something about you: do you want to be a reasonable human being or do you want to be an extremist?
Extremists won't find any good in my good answer, but reasonable humans will.
I don't find it very productive to be proud of anything that I was born with. If it isn't something that came from my own decisions, my own efforts, my own taking responsibility, then what sense does it make to be proud of it? Woo-hoo! I have brown eyes! Hooray for me! Yay! I'm tall!
Now here's the tricky part: if mainstream people make any group of people feel ashamed of themselves, there will be a backlash of those people trying to get over being ashamed.
This is why you hear about black pride or black power and it sounds like such a different thing than white pride or white power. Can you even read those words without an instant reaction? If you can, you are on the way to being a reasonable human being, if not, you might be an extremist.
It's the same about gay pride/ straight pride. One is an abused minority and the other is a historically abusive majority. We are in a transitional period. If we stop looking down on gays, they will stop feeling such a need to build themselves up. Are you really surprised when people fight fire with fire? I mean if you pick on gays for how they look are you really surprised that they pick on you in the same way?
But it isn't an equal situation. One group has been insulted and suppressed and the other group has been doing the insulting and the suppressing.
I'm not going to tell you how to be. You have to say what you think is right and wrong based on what you feel. So does everyone else.
If you try make your own right and wrong into everyone's right and wrong, then maybe you need to be the king of the world. Somehow that seems kind of extreme to me.

Please understand that for ever person you see frolicking at a Gay Pride parade, there a 10 more of us sitting at home cooking dinner, reading the paper, mowing the lawn, and doing the very same things you do.
There is nothing wrong with celebrating gay pride any more than a St. Patrick's day parade just because they happen to be Irish.
Just remember that the really OUT and about ones have a right to do that, but there are millions more of us out here living just as you do.

No they do not live exactly like me. I have known a few and lived next door in an apt. to a gay couple. That was an experience! They think and live in a whole different world.

Actually, I don't think many of us want to share our sexual orientation with the world at large. What we do want is EQUAL treatment, EQUAL recognition under the law, and EQUAL security in employment, housing, etc! (In many states, we can still be fired not based on performance but simply because the boss finds out we are gay. Same way with housing and many other things straight America takes for granted.)
So, if you want us to stop "being in your face" why not simply grant us the same privileges that you have. I'm pretty sure most of us would gladly live quiet non-political lives then.
Oh, and, I for one do not define myself by my orientation. I am so much more than single facet of my life. I do, however, define my politics by it for fairly obvious reasons. I deserve equality. Pretty simple really.

Like any other group, the vast majority of gays are not "in your face" about anything; in fact, most just want to be left alone. Most of my friends are gay, and one person who just left our social circle (for different, creepier reasons) was one who defined himself by his sexuality...and man, it got old after a while for everyone.

I am not one to put down any group for their choices, but reading your question set me on edge. To quote your own site "Whatever you do, you need courage. Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong". Seems to me you are saying to things here. Gays take courage in what they do and accept the put downs of people who are one sided and bigoted.

They are proud because horrible people try to bring them down and they deal with it everyday and don't let it get to them.
