Do something small at home and put money aside for your child. At that age, they don't need a big production for a b-day....just family and close friends.

If there is not many children at the party, I would suggest you just send them home with a gift bag filled with treats. Since there will be a majority of adults, they would like pleasant conversation and serve hors de ouvres and even a dinner. The best thing for a first birthday is a cake and Ice cream! It is so much fun to watch the baby eat cake and Ice cream on their own and see them play with it with their hands! They end up with cake all over their faces and get so surprised by the coldness of ice cream in their hands when they grab it! Just have fun! Good luck and Happy birthday to your Daughter!

My daughter had her birthday a week ago. I thought about the park or McDonald's, but we ended up just having my friends over to my house. I didn't do decorations. I had veggies & other finger food for the adults and the 3 year old. My daughter had some fruit, and of course her own cake. We went swimming in order to clean up from that. Mostly we just all sat around and played with her. It was very low-key, very inexpensive, and very rewarding to watch her interact with new people.

My daughter turns one on Wed. I am planning on having a couple of families over for a BBQ. We are going to make kabobs and hang out. I will have some decorations up, and we will have a birthday cake, sing happy birthday, give her a piece to dig into, etc. Then we will put the kids in bed, and play games with the adults. congrats to your little one!

We made my daughter her very own cake for her 1st birthday-she was the only kid there. Everyone took their picture with her and us adults played cards and had a few drinks. No need to go all out till they can remember it, like when they are 5 or 6.

Since your daughter is only turning 1 don't sweat it. Save your money for the next birthdays. Trust me a parent of a three year old. Take it easy. We did finger paint, ate hot dogs, cake and ice cream, and blew bubbles.

For my daughter's 1st birthday we had a joint party with a friend 3 days older. We got a pinata for the kids, that was a big hit. The birthday girls didn't participate but really enjoyed watching the older kids.

Well just invite family and friends, have lots of finger foods, and have a big cake for your toddler to dig her hands into. Just take lots of pictures and or videos. At this age, you don't need a theme or anything like that. Most people just want a chance to get together and have some fun.

At one, it would be a great time to start a trust fund. A 1year old will not even realze that it's her birthday. Buy her a few little things that she can handle, and a non- allegy plush toy for her to hug& wish her a Happy Birthday for me.

Get party favors at the $ store, according to the ages of the other kids attending. My son's cousins were all 5 or older so I got plain brown lunch bags and stickers and markers and let them decorate their own goody bags. They loved it. I did Winnie the Pooh for the cake plates, napkins. I did normal paper plates for the food (My son's b-day is in Aug so we had a BBQ) Make cupcakes (If you have a cakeplate you can make a tower) and then baby has one to herself to destroy.
