My father was supposed to pay child support and provide medical insurance since I was 2 or so, he did neither. I am 20 now, and he is very far behind and just now started making payments again. Is it possible to contact someone like DHR to make him pay for my education, which I cant afford right now, but I want to get.

I know that she is receiving money now. I was told that I could go through DHR and have them make him pay for my college education, because he was supposed to help with that anyways. The only other thing was that he was supposed to provide insurance for me until I was 19, but that doesn't matter because I have my own policy now.

I don't know about that. When I was growing up my father NEVER payed child support, but when I was 18 and started College, my mother ensured that he payed for my education, which he did. I am now 22 and in University and he still sends me money for school, although it seems like he doesn't want to. My mother says it is his right to pay for it - especially since he had contributed NOTHING to my well being previously. Ask your mother, or investigate DHR to see what can be done for your father to pay for your school.

The answer is dependent upon what is written into your parents' divorce or child custody decree. If college expenses and tuition is mentioned in it on him being responsible in some manner, he is responsible for it. If he is not responsible in the decree, you are out of luck unfortunately. I have listed some resources for getting help for paying for college to be on the safe side. It includes scholarships and the federal government. Before applying for any scholarship, please review the website for clues about the organization before completing the essay part.

no you are over 18 so if there isnt anything in the divorce decree about college then you are out of luck. and its your mom who gets the payments anyway so you have no claim on the money well in colorado at least.

The money belongs to your mother who supported you. If she gets the money and want to give it to you for college that's great.

I've heard of children when they come of age suing their fathers for back child support. you may want to ask an attorney though...it may not be an option in your state.
