No Bill Gates did not invent the internet. This was a program the the Air Force came up with sometime in the late 70s or early 80s. The Air Force wanted for all bases to be able to send and look up information from one base to another just by logging into a computer. After that the rest as they say is history.

No, Bill Gates did not invent the Internet.
Bill Gates created a system to operate computers that is still used widely today. Microsoft Disk Operating System (MS-DOS) was a system that allowed average users to use a computer. When Windows followed, the computer became a common household item.
The Internet began as a program by the Department of Defense. It began as ARPA Net, but eventually evolved into what we now call the internet.

Bill Gates didn't invent the Internet, Windows, or MS-DOS.
IBM contacted Bill Gates to come up with an OS way back in the 80's. He paid a company in Seattle for the rights to their OS, DOS. He in turned handed this in to IBM, in which he became famous. Then he and another fellow started Microsoft (for Microcomputer Software) and started marketing the DOS Operating System as MS-DOS.
Smart guy, but he didn't invent anything!

Nope. Bill Gates bought the rights to DOS, which he then marketed aggressively. Then his company developed Windows.
The internet started out as a project by the US military in the 1960's to connect military computers. Universities were added later, and BITNET was born. In the 1990's AOL and some other commercial providers got into the mix and everyone got on.
The WWW was created by Tim Berners-Lee (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Berners-Lee).

Bill Gates developed Windows and went on to set up Microsoft.
These two things made him the richest man in the world and the greatest philanthropist as well.

No. Actually, Microsoft was late to the internet market, but it was able to take over the browser market by giving away IE with Windows.
