Roberto Clemente had an incredible throwing arm. Of the current players, I would NEVER run on Vladimir Guerrero or Jermaine Dye.

Of course being the greatest of all-time is very subjective and you can get many different thoughts. Keep in mind that an assist from an outfielder can come from having a very strong arm; it can also come from the opponent not respecting the arm of the outfielder. Since World War II (often used as a dividing point in Major League Baseball), three outfielders come to mind to me: Rocky Colavito, Roberto Clemente, and Dwight Evans. Colavito even won a game as a pitcher for the NY Yankees his last season.

Looking at just statistics, Chuck Klein of the 1930 Philadelphia Philles holds the one season record for assists with 44. They played in the Baker Bowl that had a very short outfield; less ground to cover allowed Klein to play closer to the infield. Even holding the record I have never heard Klein be compared to the best throwing arms of all-time.

I have heard many answers to this - Ichiro supposedly has the strongest arm right now, and he's won the last 6 Gold Gloves at his position.

Willie Mays was good, as evidenced by his awesome catch and throw off a ball hit by Vic Wertz in the 1954 World Series.

In the 1910s, there was a player named Shoeless Joe Jackson who could throw a ball to home plate, and this was when the fences were farther back.

That would have been Mickey Dunham back in 1962 when he tried out for the Chicago White Sox. Unfortunately, during his first official practice with the team, he threw in from the back wall and overshot the Home plate backstop, beaning the team's owner in the stands and was cut from the team.

Jesse Barfield, Toronto Blue Jays. Jesse would catch a ball at the fence and often times, with either no bounce or 1 bounce, throw out a runner going home. I have never seen someone throw longer or faster.

Babe Ruth, The Babe was one hell of a pitcher, and he had one hell of a throwing arm when playing outfield, the Babe was very versitile, I don't know his stats on outfield assists, but when he played for the Yankees he was incredible outfielder.
