Does anyone know a mini lab to show water's temperature stabilizing effects?

I don't know if you would call it a mini-lab or not, but people used to put large washtubs full of water in their fruit cellars in the winter. The water would freeze before the fruit, thus giving a few days more storage of undamaged fruit.

The other example that prompts is the icebox. Put a chunk of ice in a closed box, and the temperature inside the box will maintain 32 deg F, or close to it until all the ice has melted.
