There's a lady at work who causes all sorts of problems. She thrives on trouble and has an exalted opinion of herself. I've heard several say they wish she'd get fired. I am cordial to her but keep my distance. The same workers who think she should be fired, will hang with her. It's like they are drawn. Why is this?

I have experienced this. I've found 'troublemakers' to be highly intelligent people who need to fill a void in their lives. Often they are seeking a way to be recognized. My attraction to them is the the thrill of risk although I don't follow them into misbehavior. I also desire to help guide them to more pro social behaviors. "Troublemakers" can have some very "out of the box" solutions to some mundane issues. I work in the area of adult education.

People are afraid that the troublemaker will get them in trouble, so they move closer to make sure nothing goes wrong.

Because they probably feel she is cool so even though she drives them crazy, they want to fit in, even adults can be stupid like high school kids
