It seems to me that Americans hate free time on a subconscience level! It seems that Americans make life decisions one after the other that take away their free time. Whether it be more procreation (more long hours at work), bigger house (more long hours at work), buying crap you don't need (more long hours at work), etc etc etc. What ever happen to just taking enough responsibility to sustain your life in a non-agrarian society and not an ounce more AND JUST LIVE!!!!!!

it's true, I've noticed that ppl aren't as free spirited anymore. Everyone is too busy scheduling tasks to do during their free time that they have no free time to do nothing and let their brains have time to relax. Possibly the reason that so many ppl have trouble sleeping. . .

I like my free time very much and spend a lot of it answering things like this and just surfing the internet....hiking on a nice day... anything I want.. The fact that I also have a big house and nice things does not make me an overworking stress ball. Don't be so quick to judge. America is a wealthy country and having nice things does not always mean you do nothing but work. The key to happiness is moderation in all things. I work at a job 3 days a week that I love so much but I take lots of time for me and my family and leisure time.

I don't think it's on purpose. I think people get caught up and forget about that "just living" part.
