this certainly is true i only know as when i was pregnant with my first child i was told the same and thought surely not and then when i saw a policeman whom i knew i asked him and he said it is true and because of the indecent exposed rule they would have to cover your dignity with whatever they could find although he did say he would rather you visited the loo

This is probably an old law from back in the day when they were affraid of the possiblity of a baby coming out while the pregnant woman was going pee, and they wouldn't want the baby to hit the ground first, that would be a rude awakening, so they would provide a hat. Silly stuff...

It true. Apprently it's an old law that has never been repealed. If you're pregnant and need the toilet you can approach a police officer for help. If he is unable to find a toilet for you to use he is supposed to offer you his helmet.
This appreantly only applies to the traditional tall policemans helmets, not the newer cap style ones !

ha ha, i know what you mean, i discussed this when i was pregnant with my first and in the end i actually asked a policeman... he said that he has to hold his coat around a pregnant woman if she needs to wee, (over a grid) but that someone was definately winding me up about the hat, he sais that i had made his day by asking that as it was very funny!!!

That is true lol when i was pregnant I read it in one of my magazines, ive got a feeling it's a very old law probably from world wars when people were in bomb shelters. I must say that i was very tempted to see what a police officer would reply to me lol

Ha ha ha! Thank you for asking this question, the answers you are getting are cracking me up! When I'm pregnant, I think I will try it just to see. 'Ello ello ello...what's goin on ere then...' ! Please, please try it just for humour. Do it somewhere you don't know anyone, and to a policeman or woman who is totally up themselves! Does the law state they have to put the hat back on too without emptying it?! I can see a lot of people getting revenge if it is true...!!

Never heard of that one.
But hey next time I see a policeman sitting by the side of the road trying to catch speeding motorists (instead of chasing muggers and burglars) I'll try it!!!

I heard this when I was pregnant too.I think it could be an urban myth, but they do have to shield you with their jacket if you need to pee in the street.I wasn't tempted to put it to the test though.
