Pirates really do exist, they come aboard merchandising ships and steal the products, they come aboard cruise ships steal from the guests, etc. They even kill the passengers and steal the ships.

Pirates "rape and plunger", "pillage and plunder", etc. They are not glamourous or heroic, even Hollywood can't undermine the reality that the are glamourizing murders and thieves.

They did back in the 16-17th century. No, they didn't have parrots on their shoulders or anything, they were just like carjackers...they cruised around looking for ships that had stuff aboard worth stealing, and took over. Merchant ships were not well armed because they needed to save room and weight for the cargo. So they were easy pickings for smaller, faster rovers which just carried mercenaries.
Many of the famous "explorers" of one country were considered "pirates" by another, because they preyed on their shipping. Sir Francis Drake was an English hero, but considered a pirate by the Spanish, who called him El Drac (the dragon).

Yes pirates did exist and used to steal valuables from other ships.

Piracy is nothing more than robbery at sea and it still goes on in places like the Far East and along parts of the Indian Ocean coast of Africa, for example.

confident, yet they are no longer something like Jack Sparrow. There are pirates off the coast of Somalia who go around in little gadget boats; they attempt to ensnare passing ships, thieve the shipment, and make anybody hostages. I hear they are very merciless, they do no longer enable the hostages sleep - and in the event that they attempt to, the pirates shoot a gun good close to their ear. until eventually somewhat presently the Somalian pirates have been making headlines, although i do no longer understand what's their state now. I extremely have a relative who's interior the provider provider army; it grew to become into 2 years in the past that a team of Somalian pirates tried to seize his deliver, that's grew to become into an fairly gradual deliver - in simple terms 5 knots i think of. He went on deck and flashed a hatchet and that deterred the pirates. actual tale.

Pirates started a 'privateers'. England and Spain were not openly at war, but they paid people to mess with the other country's shipping. Later, privateering was outlawed as tensions between England and Spain lessened. But people used to making lots of money kepty doing it. They started to make their own home bases in various Carribean Islands.
