Which is better for keeping my computer running clean and fast? If I were to uninstall McAfee and the firewall that it came with would my computer be unprotected? or will spysweeper serve as a firewall?

Sigh, these people dont know anything about security. McAfee Is a security Suite which protects you from viruses, spam, hackers and Phishing. SpySweeper is for spyware protection. Spyware and viruses are very different. Through experience and school, in my opinion McAfee is a fairly good Security Suite. Id give it 3.5/5 stars. I have not used SpySweeper however I dont belive in paying for antispyware software. Currently, I am using Trend Micro along side Adaware,Spybot Search and Destroy, Ewido AntiMalware, Windows Defender Beta 2. Trend Micro is my security suite and the rest are antispyware, adware.
It is ok to run more than one antispyware however only run 1 security suite(antivirus/firewall).
Bottom line - Keep McAfee and SpySweeper. Also install Adaware,Spybot,Ewido and Defender. That should keep your computer safe.

You need to understand that no single ant-spy program can recognize all the spyware on the net. Microsoft Security says 50 - 100 new and modified old spyware are introduced everyday. This is an impossible situation for any single AS to keep up with.
Spysweeper does not have a Firewall in it. It is only an Anti-Spy program.
You need to have at least three AS programs that provide active protection. I would keep the McAfee and add Windows Defender Beta 2 and SpywareBlaster.
WDB 2 is the AS program that will provide protection for the Windows Vista OS when it is released in Jan 07. You can read about it and download it here. The Support and Training link on the right tells you how to properly set it up and use it.

SpywareBlaster is a Blocking program. I will block Malware and prevent it from entering your computer. Remember, it can only block what it is programmed to recognize (as with any AS program). You can get this program here:

Use them both. Spysweeper is an anti-spyware and has no firewall capibilities. Depending on which version you have, McAfee may or may not have anti-spy and firewall built in.
Spysweeper is well known and respected as a top performer in detecting spyware. McAfee is well known and respected as a top performer in detecting viruses and doesn't have the same reputation as an anti-spyware.

It sounds like you're scanning with Spysweeper's trial. It won't remove the instances of spyware/adware unless you purchase the software.
McAfee only scans for spyware/adware if you have the security suite version. If you only have the AV it wouldn't be finding these problems.
From my experiences, Spysweeper finds the most scumware out there, more than any other spyware/adware scanner.

SpySweeper is specifically designed to pick up spyware & adware. McAfee is specifically designed to pick up viruses and trojans. So you couldnt really compare the to of those programs 2gether. If you have a problem with spyware & adware, go to housecall.trendmicro.com to get them removed.
