Aren't components what goes inside a hard drive. Peripherals lead off the hard drive eg printer, scanner.

The components are the internals of the computer eg. the motherboard, the hard drive, the CD & DVD drives etc.
The peripherals are external eg, the printer, scanner, fax, speakers, mouse etc.

Peripherals are the bits outside; mouse, keyboard whatever, components are inside, RAM, motherboard, graphics card, etc.

I think components are more of what its made up of but peripherals are more like accessories.

Your components are what are inside the box. They are the core of your system eg hard drive, motherboard, processor, internal dvd drive, etc
Peripherals exist outside the box, such as keyboards, scanners, mice, etc
