DON'T get an iPod.

The batteries don't last long, and the price and run around to get a new one is ridiculous.

You can ONLY and HAVE TO use iTunes with it as well.

I'd suggest getting something from Creative Labs.

Check out the players here:

I'd suggest the Creative Zen Micro (comes in 4-6 gb), or the Zen Micro Photo (color screen, 6-8 gb). There are other players as well, with the gb range you're looking, for from Creative too. Look at wal-mart if you're gonna buy your player in the retail world.

I got a Zen Micro 5gb brand new off ebay for only $80 (that included shipping)--It's been great for me.

Hope that helps!

did you just say you dont need too many Gigs? 4-8 is hella lot of Gigs. You have to spend at least 150-200 for a mp3 player like that. Go for the new Ipod Nano cauz they're the "best for the bucks" out there right now. There's a lot of Mp3 player with 2Gb and 1Gb or 512Mb with extremely low prices. But with 4-8 Gb, Ipod Nano is the best and cheapest right now.

I have a Zen Micro, too, and I love it. Mine is 4 GB, and it's more than enough for me. You can create playlists straight from the player and delete recordings. Also, the removable disk mode is invaluable. The replacable batteries are pretty handy too.
