The song you are looking for was written by Gene Autry.. it is NOT the one made famous recently by Rod Stewart as others have suggested. I have heard Loretta Lynn sing it.. I believe that Hank Williams, Sr. might also have sung it, but I can't recall.
the one by Rod Stewart goes:
