Multiply both sides by x:
3-x=6+2x
Add x-6 to both sides:
-3=-3x
Divide by -3:
x=-1

This is a proportion problem

Multiply the means and the extremes

The Means are 6(x - 1)

The extremes are 3(x + 2)

This is called cross multiplying

3/x - 1 = 6/x + 2

6(x - 1) = 3 (x + 2)

6x - 6 = 3x + 6

The distributive property on both sides of the equation

6x - 6 - 3x = 3x + 6 - 3x

Subtracting - 3x from both sides of tghe equation

3x - 6 = 6

3x - 6 + 6 = 6 + 6

Adding + 6 from both sides of the equation. The - 6 and + 6 cancell on the left side of the equation

3x = 12

Collecting like terms 6 + 6 equals 12

3x/3 = 12/3

Dividing both sides of the equation by 3

x = 4

The solution set is { 4 }

The answer is x = 4

Insert the x value into the equation

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Check

3/x - 1 = 6/x + 2

3/4 - 1 = 6/4 + 2

3/3 = 6/6

1 = 1

if by this you mean

(3/(x - 1)) = (6/(x + 2))

cross multiply

3(x + 2) = 6(x - 1)

divide both sides by 3

x + 2 = 2(x - 1)

x + 2 = 2x - 2

-x = -4

x = 4

Is that supposed to be

4/(x-1) = 6/ (x+2) or
or (3/x) - 1 = (6/x) + 2

If the first one, mulitply both sides by (x-1)(x+2).
If the second one, multiply both sides by x.

Hope that helps.
