is a flat bed truck driver for a living so there is strenuous activity often, nothing in particular occurred, but severe shoulder and side pain along with coughing up blood. was taken to e.r. overnite (before the blood in his cough started) are they related and how serious is the issue? had been coughing and having pain for 4 days before the blood (which is now happening with every strong cough) is perscribed pain meds and muscle relaxers..... is 35 years old.

here are some questions you should ask yourself. was this trauma related? what color is the blood, is it bright red, kind of frothy, and how much? normally coughing blood leads to a pulmonary problem with in the lungs. there could be a variety of things that could be the cause of this. the medications prescribed will help with the torso pain and rest, but if this cough persists or gets worse go and get checked for the cough. you'll need x rays done of the chest. there are plenty of pulmonary problems out there that have the coughing of blood as a sign and symptom. such as tuberculosis and pulmonary edema.

As a general rule of thumb, coughing up blood is VERY bad. I would say that the pain in your torso is related. If there was any trauma to that area it has probably caused something. Often a broken rib can damage your lung and cause bleeding into your lung which causes coughing up blood. Either way, get it looked at. Blood in the lungs is VERY bad.

OK I'm sorry you don't have insurance, but you cant just like wait and maybe the pain will go away. I think you have a very bad urine infection. OK this is a remedy i use when I'm sick with symptoms close to that, first don't laugh it will help, Boil parsley and drink the water of it you can drink it cold no problem, Then you got your cranberry juice, which is great. Have you ever heard of camomile tea that's good too.drink lots of liquids. But you know what if you can go to the pharmacy and ask them what medicine can i but of the counter for urine infection? they should have something. Good Luck. I have to be honest but it looks like you need antibiotics.
