Thye used to be called VD (veneral diseases) after the goddess of love (Venus)
BUt what's love got to do with it???
Than they were called social diseases
THen STDs (sexually transmitted diseases)
Now they are STIs--sexually transmitted infections
theses are infections that can be transferred by sexual and or intimate contact
warts, herpes, clamydia, HIV, pubic lice, etc

People think of disease as an infection to the body, but disease is an infection of any kind. Social disease is a problem that effects people of an area or group through emotion and mental means.
Like if a group of people think that eating other people are okay, this is a social disease.

I think that a social disease is a social behavior that has an adverse effect on the entire group. For example, gambling might be considered a social disease.

Social disease is a disease, symptom, or condition that is caused by direct and intimate contact with others.
Therefore, both VD and AIDs would be considered social diseases, as well as Tuberculosis.
...But I guess you can look at it literally, or figuratively.
