Actually the $150 plus information is incorrect...for some carriers. Verizon only charges $50.00- to replace a phone. Also their prepay phones are actually not that cheap. They run about $100+ unless you purchase it at a Verizon booth in a walmart then its only 50+. Verizon offers competative pricing!

Minutes are very expensive. 100 minutes can cost $25-$50. Regular service have some plans that give 2000 for $50.

Because they are expensive on a per-minute basis.

There are two cost-effective ways to buy a phone:
Prepaid if you rarely talk and just want to have a phone for emergencies, etc. It's expensive per minute but cheap per year.
Unlimited if you talk a lot. Cheap per minute, but expensive per year.

prepay phones are not just cheap. these are just gimmicks used by service providers. they earn revenue from the services they provide you. itz only about difference in plans.

because their only compatible with the com pony that sell you the minutes and therefore you can not buy minutes from any one else. and they make money regardless of how cheap they sell the phone.
