I'm pretty sure I paid it, but have no record as I destroyed any old records that were over 10 years old. It's a collection company that is handling it. I don't ever remember getting anything on this in the past years. And now they are demanding payment.

I'm pretty sure the statute of limitations has passed on this one. A company usually only gets 2 years to collect on a past due debt. A lot of bill collection companies will do this. The original company you owe the debt to will typically wait 6 months to a year before sending something to collections and then the collections companies may wait another 6 months or longer before trying to contact you. Then they demand payement or other legal action but if they haven't contacted you until now, they are just plain out of luck. There are limits on how long you can wait before trying to collect a debt. Maybe contact your state's Attorney General's office and inquire as to what the exact statute of limitations is on debt collection. Good luck!

depends on if this is a thrid party collecting on the debt. if so they have 6 years from the date of last payment or 6 years of the last charge which ever came last. if you are not sued during the 6 years they cant do anything about it. if you are sued and waiting inline for a garishment they can wait forever. the doctor where the bill originated from can collect as long as they want to.

if you want to dispute this, you must write a letter telling them you want the bill didputed. then they have 30 days to respond to you with proof that you owe the bill. in the letter tell them to no longer contacting you at work or by phone that way at least it will cut down on the phone calls and wont put your current job at risk.

First of course there is no statue of limitation in "collecting" but there is a stature of limitation in being able to sue you over it. Most people get that confused, they can bill you for the rest of your life if they want to.

Also if you acknowledge the bill or make a payment on it, you can agree and make it fresh again

Best thing is to deny oweing it, demand proof of the debt, that normally shuts them up. And demand they don't call you on the phone.

It appears to be 5 years, but you really should consult a local attorney for more information. Attempting to a collect a consumer debt that is time barred might be a violation fo the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, but local attorney will have more time to analyze your case properly to see if you have any claims.

There is no limitation on how long they can try to collect it, though there is a limit to how long they can wait to get a judgement against you, which has long past almost certainly.

I am sure this is beyond the statute of limitations. Do not pay the bill! It is absurd that they are doing this to you.
