It's a DHOW and it's used for fishing and pearl diving. Now a days they usually are powered by a diesel engine with no sails. I know this because I was stationed in the Persian gulf where they still build these things.

a dhow is an Arab SHIP not a boat so perhaps you mean "junk" but that's Chinese so in truth , I do not know.
