The US would have fewer states and be smaller, and we would have a different, new country to our SouthEast that allowed slavery.

That's a very broad question, too broad really for any sort of decent answer in this space. Here are some ideas though.

1. "Winning the War Between the State" would not mean taking over the north, but would mean the permanent existence of another country on the North American Continent.

2. Slavery would have continued as in institution in the Confederate States for some time, but would probably have ended as the South industrilized. How long, nobody can say. Think of the problems that would would have caused.

3. Europe would have been free to become involved in the interanal affairs of the former Uninted States. Think of WWII with German as an ally of the South and England, Russia as an ally with the north.

You need to think this trough with alot of "what would happen if?" questions.

Dude, I know of the perfect author for you to look up: Harry Turtledove. This guy writes alternate history like your question there; what if Japan had invaded and occupied Hawaii instead of hitting it and then running; and a more far-fetched one, what if aliens invaded during World War II. It may be a little advanced for you, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to take a look.

Your teacher is asking you to really THINK about this subject and become familiar with what the South was fighting for.
You can be pretty sure that what they wanted is what they would have implemented, had they won. So search out the South's position and you will have your answer.

If I were you, since the teacher is being so in depth on this, I would expect to see it on a test later.
