Some people believe the war on drugs in unwinnable and insane.
The gov't would make a fortune off of drug taxes, and our jails would be less crowded. Also, legalization would put an end to small time dealers, because the major drug manufacturers would make them.
Do you feel it's time to rethink the war on drugs?

I do not take drugs. Thank you. This is a serious question, about how society deals with its problems.

It doesn't make sense does it to keep locking up people for marijuana? Tax it, control it, age restrictions, etc. same as prositution, hell if we legalized them both and taxed them we could do away with incopme tax, well am sure the bureaucrats would find new ways of spending it

I am against anything that causes grave harm to people. The most dangerous drug of all is alcohol... Literally millions of lives have been lost or ruined because of it. Making more drugs legal, regardless of the "financial benefits" would be irresponsible and immoral in my view.. As for your other point of overcrowded prisons.... I agree that a lot of small time dealers are serving time in prison that is probably too harsh... those laws could be reformed without having to legalize more dangerous drugs.

I'm not sure what to think. I'm a health care professional, and I hate what illegal drugs can do to people. On the other hand, there are times it seems the war on drugs is "unwinnable".
If an adult wants to use drugs, you could argue that it's his or her business, and the government shouldn't interfere.
I would worry about kids using drugs. Does keeping certain drugs illegal make it harder for kids to get them?

If the gov. made drugs legal, the court system would be pretty much empty. Less lawyers, less judges, less prosecutors less money.. No way will the United States legalize drugs. They're making too much money off of the fact they're illegal.
The real crooks are down town. They have a license to break the
so called law.

Yes, but for the laws to make drugs legal in the United States would mean public disclosure of the politicians enacting these laws, and they would be afraid to do this. Plus, the legalization of drugs would drastically lower the price of them eventually, as we know free market capitalization, "free-trade", and competition, especially with legalization, WOULD do such. (And how can you tax five bucks on a dollar product-then expect not to hear from screaming tax-payers as to all of the crime and rehab taxes they would have to pay?) The flow is regulated, in some ways. In the mean-time, it will probably just go on as it has. The fight against drugs is just a lie, and the people who benefit most from their sale, will just pay the right people to KEEP drugs illegal, and pay the right people to get the drugs in the country. I understand your view on things, but the people in control of the drug trade, have the ability to, and the money to, STAY in control of this trade. Who do you think RULES Afghanistan? It's da drug-dealers my friend.

I live in Texas and would very much like to see drugs legalized for many reasons. Our prisons are over crowded with young men who became addicted to drugs at an early age with LONG prison terms. Please don't forget when be bash the % of African Americans in prison that the US justice system says: whoever has the most money wins in court.........there are just as many white people with serious drug problems but their families have the money to get them treatment and keep them out of jail. EXCELLENT QUESTION THAT NEEDS TO BE BROUGHT UP IN THE HIGHER ECHELONS OF GOVERNMENT.

The war on drugs is both insane and hypocritical. The two most commonly abused addicive recreational drugs in use in this country are legal: alcohol and tobacco.
Legalize them all and tax them heavily.

Sure I think the war on drugs is a big waste of resources. But it gives politicians something to wail about, so there's zero chance the war will end.
