Democrats call this "Redistribution of Wealth".
What it amounts to is taking away from those who work, and giving it to those who don't work.
(The government employees and bureaucrats get much of the money even before it gets to the non-working.)
It's an old communist idea that was applied in the Soviet Union.
No one minds giving to those who Can't work, what riles conservatives is giving to those who Refuse to work.

"the liberals" is too general of a term, how about the disabled, veterans who were hurt in a conservative war? I'm fairly liberal, but I don't think that we need to support the hardcore unemployed. Giving someone a helping hand once is alright, handouts no way. I work pay taxes, but also get a small dissability pension from the VA. I also was off owrk for 7 months due to a car hitting me while I was ridding my motorcycle, while waiting on their insurance to settle I got food stamps, does that make me lazy or a free loader, fact is disability doesn't pay enough to live on and eat. Do I feel the governement owes me a living? No, they owe me some comphensation which I get for my service connected disability though.

Well, I qualify as I liberal, I guess, since I vote Democrat, but I don't think that.
Every able-bodied adult in the USA has the ability to control their reproduction, and make choices about what they can and cannot afford to do in their life, based upon the amount of money they themselves can make.
Those who refuse to accept responsibility for their lives and bodies over the course of their lives are simply a burden to society, and to the taxpayers who are forced to support their irresponsibility.
However, not everyone starts out with the same opportunities; as well, people do make mistakes in their lives. Some work very hard to overcome obstacles to a better life, and some work very hard to repair mistakes they have made to get their lives back on track. I don't believe it's either humane or appropriate for our society to refuse to offer assistance to such people.
As well, I think it's important to educate people, whether that means helping to pay for school, or tax-funded classes for adults to help them train for better jobs, or to give them skills to manage their lives.
Having said that, none of the above require long-term financial help. Excepting physically injured or mentally handicapped individuals, you're right--there are a lot of people out there abusing the system, having multiple children while on the dole, and staying dependent on taxpayer handouts for much of their lives. And, there are a lot of liberals who think that's ok. It's not; it's enablement, and I'm one liberal who is all for revamping any number of social programs to stop such abuses.

First off no one should have to earn the air that they breathe. Next off it isnt they believe they should be lazy they believe that with some help people can get back on their feet and get off subsidies. There are people out there who are lazy and use them to their advantage which is why I think there needs to be some stricter rules on the subsidies. Though for people like my brother and a good friend of mine who cant afford health care but have mental disorders such as extreme social anxiety and bi polar disease they would starve to death in some street if it wasnt for these subsidies. But you have probobly never had to deal with situations like that so you couldnt care less about it. I am going to stop there because its people like you who are ignorant and show how much stupidity is in the republican party.

Democrats "feel" the needy should be taken care of, which actually most people believe. But it has gone too far when we have generations of families on the public rolls. These programs with the way they are currently configured are building a race of slaves to the US government. People are giving up their rights for a check. The Liberals perpetuate this and use it like a cross to generate votes for themselves. I feel sorry for the slaves, for they do not see what is being done to them.

My problem is with the conservatives who lump in the working poor who benefit from those programs, with those who aren't trying to get a job. I'm not as willing to label all of those who are poor as 'lazy or unemployed'. Such stereotyping is bad for our society.

Maybe for the same reasons why the Republicans
should THANK the Liberals?
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF JOE MIDDLE-CLASS
REPUBLICAN CONSERVATIVE
"Joe gets up at 6:00 am to prepare his morning coffee. He fills his pot full of good clean drinking water because some liberal fought for minimum water quality standards. He takes his daily medication with his first swallow of coffee. His medications are safe to take because some liberal fought to insure they are safe and work as advertised.
All but $10.00 of his medications are paid for by his employers medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance, now Joe gets it too. He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs this day. Joe's bacon is safe to eat because some liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.
Joe takes his morning shower reaching for his shampoo; His bottle is properly labeled with every ingredient and the amount of its contents because some liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained. Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some tree hugging liberal fought for laws to stop industries from polluting our air.
Joe walks to the subway station for his government subsidized ride to work; it saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees. You see, some liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor.
Joe begins his work day; he has a good job with excellent pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation days because some liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joe's employer pays these standards because Joe's employer doesn't want his employees to call the union. If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed he'll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some liberal didn't think he should loose his home because of his temporary misfortune.
It's noon time, Joe needs to make a bank deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe's deposits are federally insured by the FSLIC because some liberal wanted to protect Joe's money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the Depression.
Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae underwritten mortgage and his below market federal student loan because some stupid liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his life-time.
Joe is home from work, he plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive to dads; his car is among the safest in the world because some liberal fought for car safety standards.
Joe arrives at his boyhood home. He was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers Home Administration because bankers didn't want to make rural loans. The house didn't have electric until some big government liberal stuck his nose where it didn't belong and demanded rural electrification. (Those rural Republican's would still be sitting in the dark).
Joe is happy to see his dad who is now retired. His dad lives on Social Security and his union pension because some liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn't have to. After his visit with dad he gets back in his car for the ride home.
Joe turns on a radio talk show, the host's keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. (He doesn't tell Joe that his beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day)
Joe agrees, "We don't need those big government liberals ruining our lives; after all, I'm a self made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have".
