im an immigrant yay me I know what that is like,
as time passes if the person really wants to learn the language,
that person will learn the language and if the person doesnt want to learn they will just learn the very basic.
Customs are very easy to adpt to through observation.
When I moved into the US I knew nothing of english and now I am pretty good at it.

Of course they will, it's not as if you only Hear another language, you'll have to express yourself too in order to communicate. And between the two, most people learn another language pretty fast,
my own children (7, 10, 11) came to Ireland without a word of English and they learnt it within 3 months. Most adults need longer, but even the most reluctant ones are usually fluent within the year, although some people never loose the accent of their native language.

That's called immersion--and is considered the best way to learn a language, actually. If a company sends a person to a foreign country where they will be for a while, they usually try to limit their exposure to speakers of their native tongue as much as possible, and people usually have the basics down withing weeks.

In my elementary school in Ohio a really popular kid was from Costa Rica, and learned to speak English really quickly just by being here for a couple of months. Really impressive. He ended up moving back to Costa Rica later, I think his parent's green cards must have expired or something.

I did this. I was born and within a few years I was fluent in the language I heard every day.

Wait... that's what everyone does. Why do you think it is a rare accomplishment?
