I am starting a backyard nursery. I will start out by selling only pond or aquatic plants. So should I get my own website, sell on e-bay, or put ads on message boards?

Ebay definitely BUT ---> watch the restrictions. Some plants, including water plants cannot be shipped to certain states because they are considered invasive and I know the same goes for land plants and trees. You can ship these but you do not want to be caught doing it unless you can afford the fines and legal fees. I also think that you might need a license to ship plants out of state – to other states - they need that license information. Some plants also have to be inspected before shipment. I know from experience that if a potted plant was grown outside in Michigan and shipped to several other states that it had to be inspected for Japanese beetle larvae and certified clean before it could be shipped to that state. There are other type of restrictions like this too and also note that you have to know other states restrictions, not just your own. You would do good by calling your local soil and conservation district and find out what you need to properly do this business and also check ebays restrictions for doing this also.

Make leaflets and stick them round yourneghboorhood or put them in your local newspaper the more customers means that even more people will come as long as the first costumers were happy. When you first make a buisness always keep things cheap like for your fist day have like a sale
