First timers always look dorky.
My advise is for you to stick to simple steps that you can copy at first. And then maybe try more advanced moves.
Stick to the basics. Grow from there. You have TONS of years to get better.
And many people don't care. As long as you're not sitting down, you're pretty much okay.

First of all get it out ya head that you cant dance beacuse dancing is 20% skill 80% confidence. If you want to learn start by listening to music every chance you get. Everybody has unique rythem. So pratice in the mirror, start with a head bob to the beat, then work your way to a hip two step to the beat, and keep adding little things as you go along. The key is to pratice, pratice, pratice in the mirror to see if the moves you are doing look awkward and improve. Make sure you are confident. Puts lots of energy into it!!

lightly grind, but not necessarily to anyone. Just dance in a little circle of friends or with one specific person, w/e floats your boat. Slow dance at the slow slongs if you have someone to dance with, or just rock back and forth. Just copy what everyone else is doing, that usually works. Slow songs are usually towards the end. I'm your age, 14 and highschool freshman. This is what everyone did at the middle school dances.

Well depnding on the date. You can take jazz classes or hip hop there you can learn to dance . thoes two dances are very popular and it could be a very good class. Maybe you have to practice a little. But everything will come down and you will see what have you learn.

I'm 14 and a freshmen and I know how to dance because I go to house parties. If you can dance like with the main steps don't just stand by the punch bowl you betta find ya boyfriend and just shake ya butt on him if you have to. Trust me he will like it, but don't just dance with him. Get all the cute single boys.
PS: Don't wear a ugly costume.
Don't look scary look sexy even if you gotta dress like a hoe.

You can learn to dance well by practicing. You can practice together on your own or take a dance class. Don't worry so much and just have fun.

i know how u feel. im a junior in HS and my freshman was awkward 2. i had never seen freak-dancing and grinding before so it was really uncomfortable. try creating a basic routine with your frienda AND your boyfriends. tell ur friends to bring their boyfriends, or girlfriends if sum of ur friends r guys, and lern aa routine thats jus yours. the results are awesome when alotta ppl r doin em. plus now everyone will shine and ull feel great, plus u'll get to show urself off to ur guy!!! :)
