It really depends on your needs. I currently own a Palm TX, and I am very pleased with its performance. It features wireless capabilities, blue-tooth, and user-friendly applications to help you keep up with appointments, contacts, pictures, and even music.
I have owned a Pocket PC as well, it was a Dell and I really liked it. However, since I have had experiences with both Windows Pocket PC and Palm OS, I believe Palm has a more user-friendly operative system. Although, if you really want something with power to run games and stuff like that, you need a Pocket PC, because they are the ones that have more processing power, better graphics, and more developers working on really cool games. It is also true though, that Pocket PCs tend to be more expensive than Palm OS units, so that is another detail to consider.
There are plenty of applications for PDAs including medical software. You can install these programs on every PDA, regardless of the operative system, Windows or Palm. However, you do need to buy software specific for that system. It is like having MAC and Windows, not all programs are compatible with both. You may buy software from on-line retailers like handango.com, pocketgear.com or palmgear.com. I am not a doctor, but my doctor friends, all of them use Palm for their medical software.
I would say that you need to evaluate what your needs or expectations are for a PDA and then purchase one accordingly. You may do some research on www.cnet.com, they have great reviews on most PDAs and comparison charts. Good luck!

This may be what you are looking for:

This is an eBay auction link for exactly what you need, at the best possible price.

You're not going to go wrong with the Palm TX. And one of the reasons It'll suit you better than a pocket PC, is that the TX battery tends to run longer than its Pocket PC counter parts. This is in part Pocket PC being more powerful.

My personal view is if you need something like a laptop, but really really small, then get a Pocket PC. If you need a PDA (that is to say a personal digital assistant) then get a Palm.

If you don't like the TX, consider the Axim X51V, or the Palm Lifedrive (The Lifedrive compatible with the same medical software as the Palm TX)

Good Luck with you choice,
Mike

I would recommend a Palm-based Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), as Palm is famous for powerful, yet easy-to-use PDAs.

For your needs, I would recommend the following models:

- Palm Tungsten T/X (Retails for $299)
http://www.palm.com/us/products/handhelds/tx/

It offers a powerful device with built-in WiFi and Bluetooth, gorgeous large screen, SD card slot for expansion, and many powerful applications for school, work, and every day use. You can also use the device as an mp3 player, and to watch DVDs on it (with special software).

- Palm LifeDrive (Retails for $399)
http://www.palm.com/us/products/mobilemanagers/lifedrive/

The LifeDrive has similar features to the Tungsten T/X. However, it includes a 4GB hard drive for plenty of storage of photos, documents, music, even videos. It also includes a built-in voice recorder.

Personally, I use the LifeDrive, but it may be overkill for your needs. I would recommend going to a local retail store and trying the two handhelds.
