Use a trail of baking soda at any point where ants can enter the home. Ants will not cross over a powdery substance.

Ant Bait Recipe:
1 part 20 Mule Team Borax or Boric acid
9 parts of a sweet sticky liquid like maple syrup, honey or Karo syrup
Mix the ingredients. Heating in a double boiler may speed the process. Take an empty margarine tub and poke 4 holes around the bottom edge (entry holes for ants to walk in).
Place a dollop the size of a quarter in the middle of the tub, then put the top back on. This mixture is not non-toxic, however it is less toxic, and that's the key to its success.
The ants carry it back to the nest where they feed it to the entire colony and wipe out the nest.

If they are the big carpenter ants, they are in your wood - pretty much need an exterminator for that - like for termites, might require tenting. If sugar ants or other small, scavenging ants, the boric acid in jelly works pretty well. Fire ants come in from nests close to the house or right up against it - find them and apply Orthene.

Lavender essence works well to rid your home of ants. It is effective and smells good, too. It is also safe for use where there are pets or children. It can be obtained from drugstores.
If your ants are getting into your kitchen and bath, you might check the pipes that go into the wall and apply a few drops of the lavender essence there.

What i exploit that would not kill them yet doeschronic them away is Witch Hazel. you will get it at any grocery or drug save, in basic terms soak some cotton balls with it and position them as close to as you may to the position the ants are available in. It worked large for me! you in basic terms ought to save it up and re-moist the cotton balls each and every 8 hours or so for some days till the ants provide up. i'm not positive if this is risky to canines, yet my domestic dogs do not mess with it (5 German Shepherd domestic dogs). Blessed be

Mix equal parts borax and confectioner's sugar. Add enough water to make it syrupy. Pour a little into old jar lids and put in cupboards and corners and behind appliances.....whever you find them. Don't let the kids or pets get to it.
