I'm moving to Austin and I'm trying to see what my utilities might look like. I don't have to pay any here thanks to my all included deal. But, that's so hard to find in Austin....
I'll be getting a two or three bedroom apartment or house if that helps determine what the price might be. Thanks!

Plan on something in the range of 200-300/month. Some months it will be less. Get gas for heat if you can (we live outside city limits so don't have that option). Cheaper than electric heating. Then you have to think about water/waste water and trash pickup.

Then there is cable, telephone, etc.

The thought of having at least some of those by contract in an apartment sounds better and better all the time. We have spent inordinate amounts on water to keep the established plants in the yard from dying during this record setting year, we gave up on the lawn long ago.

200-300 is way off imho.
My last house was 3BR, 1500 SQ and built in 1964 so it was not insulated nor did it have storm windows. My bill was NEVER over 160, and this includes water and trash and wastewater.

Currently I have a 2BR duplex with very high ceilings and I've not paid over 140, once again including water, sewer and trash.

I keep the house on 74, all night and all day. I've lived in Austin 7 years, always had mid to large size homes and never paid 200.

your electric bill is going to vary depending on a lot of factors. if it is an older house/apartment, your bill will be more due to less efficiency. also, it depends on what you keep your thermostat set to. in my one bedroom apartment my bill was about $100 during the summer hot months (June-Sept). I also kept my thermostat at 78. during the winter it was around $50 since i didnt mind the colder temperatures. our two bedroom apartment was around $175 summer and $75 in the winter. Right now, our 4 bedroom house is $250 summer and we are still waiting to see about the winter. Keep in mind the seasons can change a lot too, if it is a particulary cold winter, it will be more expensive for heat. Electric heat is cheaper than gas, so hopefully that works in your favor. For apartments, it would be best to find one that includes it in your rent.

bookmark my site http://www.kd8energy.igniteinc.biz. Once you move and set up your initial energy provider you can switch to Stream energy and save money on your monthly bill without losing any of the service from your current provider. Electricity is deregulated in Texas and Stream Energy is the hottest business in Texas as an alternative to the big energy companies.
