Had my 1003 Pontiac Grand Am serviced and the moved out of area. Tech didn't reset the service engine soon light. Happened once before and salesman pushed some button near the steering wheel and wouldn't show me how. I'm not living near a dealer and want to do it myself. Anyone know how, it's of course not in the manual.

Assuming that there are no problems causing the light to come on, you can usually disconnect the battery for a few minutes. Then reconnect it and the light should go out.

It has to be reset at the dealer. The computer is what the dealers have that needs to reset the light. Sorry to say but you have to make the trip back. I know on older models you remove the negetive cable from the battery for 10 secs which clears the memory from the computer in the car but pretty sure these newer cars have the capabilities to have memory whether you do this or not.

There is no button under the dash you can push to reset it. You have to hook it up to a OBDII scanner to reset it and like the previous answerers have said, if there's a code causing the light to come on, it will come back on again. You should go to any car shop to get it reset or you can buy a OBDII scanner for yourself and do it yourself.

Try pumping the brake 3 times in 5 seconds with the ignition in the "run" position. This may not work because different cars have different procedures. Any mechanic can tell you how - not just the dealers.

The car has to be hooked up to an OBDII scanner such as a Consult to have the codes cleared, and as long as they are not cleared the light will probably be on.

That or you could yank the bulb out =)

The only way to shut this light off is by using the computer and telling it that the service has been done

go to a shop that can read the computer codes.then get the item(s) fixed .after that they can turn the light off. if you turn it off before repairs it will come back on.
