Hey,
As of yesterday, I've been having symptoms of a cold that have been coming on quickly and today I am just feeling stuffy and gross. I take a vitamin everyday and yet I've read that calcium intake helps...? I dont know what to do, but if you have any helpful suggestions regarding ridding myself of this cold they'd be MUCH appreciated!!! Thanks!!!

Well if you can't see a clinic, I would suggest my mother's solution. She calls it her "get well" chicken soup. No joke. Here is the recipe: Boil boneless chicken breast until tender/falling apart. KEEP THE STOCK...this will make the "soup." Pull the chicken by hand and place it in the stock. Add one or two bullion cubes if desired for added strength of flavor. Cut fresh celery, and carrots and add to the soup. Allow to boil for one half hour on medium high. ***KEY INGREDIENT*** ADD WHITE PEPPER LIBERALLY (can be found in the spice aisle at any grocer). White pepper is known for working as a natural expectorant. It will get all the crap out of your head and sinuses. DON'T drink milk as it will cause the mucus membranes to swell, and will thicken the mucus. Calcium chews are a good supply of calcium without the miseries of milk. Drink juice which contains 100% Vitamin C, or better yet, eat one half an orange in the morning and one at night. If you are not visibly better in 3 days, seek a professional. Hope this helps.....it ALWAYS does for us! (^_^) PS > If you like garlic, add that to your soup as well, as Garlic is proven to boost the body's immune system.

First of all, make sure you are getting plenty of rest. Also, sometimes the stress that comes from worrying about your symptoms can delay healing. I find that sometimes taking a hot bath or shower can help loosen phelgm. Another option is to fill your bathroom basin with hot water, apply some Vicks Vapo Rub to your chest and throat and then place a towel over your head and lean over the sink breathing in the vapors, this also really helps loosen phelgm. Yes, you can also take Vitamin C (always a good idea) but by the time you are actually sick, it's not really a cure, but it will boost your immune system, take it everyday, but realize it is a preventative. Also good are Golden Seal and Zinc. Get plenty of sleep, nourishing soups with lots of veggies and above all hang in there, it WILL go away in time.

That cold is running rampant around this country. I have had it for a couple weeks and it is no fun. Get a good decongestant and Advil for the aches. Take Mucinex if it even hints it is heading for your chest. Vicks vapor rub or a cough drop will help with the throat helps as well. Try to get some rest if you can, Resting (when I finally got it) helped me heal a lot!

I'm sick as a dog right now, too, and it came on just as quickly as yours. I usually take Day-Quil in the day and Ny-Quil before bed and it makes me feel loads better. You get a great night's sleep. But I suggest dumbing down the dose of Ny-Quil before bed if you have to go to school or work or anything like that because you might be sleeping just a little too well and miss you alram clock. But the good thing is, you dont wake up drowsy. =] Feel better!

Try nasal saline spray. It flushes the cold virus from your nose so you cease getting symptoms but you must use it two or three times a day for complete reversal of the cold.

Do you walk barefeet? As the body starts getting older, you have to get used to wering things you did not wear before! I used to go barefeet and without a shirt. Not anymore!!

Drink lots of water, and OJ for vitamin C to boost your immune system! Get rest too, don't overexert yourself. All you can do other than that is wait for your immune system to fight it off. =)
