Newton's laws of gravity and motions of the planets were published in a book with a longer title, that came to be known as Principia (one of the words in the title). Principia was significant in the history of science because it showed that the laws of gravity that make an apple fall to the ground are the same laws of gravity that control the motions of the planets.
