Switch to gmail. Huge storage, and it works way better than hotmail ever will.

If you are happy with hotmail and need more email space, then I recommend the paid version and it also provides more security than the free version. Using the paid version also helps hotmail to continue offering their services to us using it free.

I've got Gmail which gives almost 3GB of space, and Yahoo! Mail which gives you 1GB. I hate Hotmail, but I'm sure the paid version is better.

Why pay for something that is free somewhere else? I agree with many other users that GMail is the best alternative for what you are looking for. Also, Yahoo! mail beta version looks pretty promising.
